Hasbro Lee & Grant figures |

I can't say that I've ever seen the Hasbro Grant & Lee figures in my old, local Wal-Mart (back in the day) If nothing else, from what I've
seen, the heads seem to be about the best looking sculpts I've seen. What do you think ?

Seabee,
I agree. I have them (still in their boxes, no room right now to display them) and the HS are very well done. I have replaced those meaty claw-like hands Hasbro put on most of their figures with DML hands on a few figures and it makes the Hasbro figure look much better. Of course I could probably pop the HS off and put it on a complete DML body which would be even better.

Just how do you remove the 'lobster-claw' from Hasbro bodies?

A hairdryer and a pair of pliers. heat the arm for abour a minute and then pull the hands out with the plyers. You can replace them with 21st century or fill the hole then drill to fit your favorite hand plugs. |

I cut off the claw hands even with the forearm/wrist. Then I drilled a hole thru the old peg for the DML peg. On a few I had to wrap the DML peg with pipe tape
to keep them in place.
I have since found some plastic epoxy by Loctite (Plastix Bonder) and believe that if you pull the old peg out and fill in the hole with this epoxy that a hole can be drilled thru the epoxy. The epoxy sets in 20-25 minutes and fully hardens in 24 hours. I've been using the epoxy on a 1/6 model of the WW2 Fw 189 Uhu (cockpit nacelle only) and it's very hard once cured. It dries to a cream color. I got it at Lowes or Wal-Mart.

Hasbro started this hobby for me with their CW Union and Confederate Soldier, then I bought Grant and Lee but I have moved on to better, more accurate figures.
I agree, the head sculpts weren't that bad and I believe I might have mine still. I'll have to go through my hobby room and see. I believe I put all
Grant's and Lee's accessories in the first grab bag go-around. The overscaled, inarticulate bodies and humongous hands make/made me shiver. The coffee
pots weren't too bad for a permanent camp scene but for the average Joe, no pun intended, was way too big.
The one thing that Hasbro did that no one else has was a complete dog shelter. I regret not keeping that if not for nothing more than a pattern. Cotswold did one but unfortunately, I never purchased theirs. It amazed me when Dragon tried to enter the CW arena with their version of Lee, anyone remember the prototype photos with the Grant head in Lee's uniform? Unfortunately they didn't improve too much over Sideshows Lee except for the correct buff sash. Andy

As for the sculpts themselves, they were and are still among the closest to the pictures of the two men. If I was good at repainting as some of your guys are,
I'd have used the sculpts on better bodies. I did replace the bodies on both figures, with the figures that KB used to carry, wasn't power team, but
was one of the early Dragon knockoffs that were out there. Hasbro uniforms were too heavy and bulky and polyester looking, and obviously the old Joe bodies
were way out of date, but accessories and head sculpts were useful.

Hey Andy, I think I have one of those huge coffee pots, works well for one of the big 'cattle-drive' pots. One could always use it as a
personal melon armor during battles. lol Yes Hasbro bodies are still mighty "HE-MANISH', one of the main reasons I take the Dremel to most of my
bodies. However I find the bbi g-1 bodies to be much more to realistic proportions.
I used one of my DML Lee's as an AA sculpt, removed the 'bat-wings' from above the ears and re-painted him .Doesn't look bad Those Hasbro uniforms are like something out of a Beegee's custome rack though.

Well, that was what I was thinking too. I figured the Hasbro heads with a different body and uniform would look pretty good. Now...to find a couple of Hsbro
heads. LOL !!!

Can't say much about the Lee figure, save it came in a lot smaller box, with a lot less stuff than the prior Grant figure. Of that whole series of Timeless
collection, it was the Grant that I liked the best. Lots of fine detail on the clothing, if you find one made correctly.
Again it been way to long for me to remember the body type on the Lee, but the Grant was 1964 Joe type, complete with the "nose picker" hands. Picture of one of the 2 I still own, after I bought about 10 for the old OVD to pick over back in the day.
Can't find love on one of the Hasbro pieces, try looking for one of the Legacy of Valor figures ...
