Posts: 145 (06/30/09 19:39:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I just got done telling someone else not to hesitate posting just because it's been done, so here's the start of my version of Joshua Chamberlain. This is a present for my son's birthday (shhhhh...don't tell him), as "Gettysburg" is one of our favorite movies (and places to visit!) and I couldn't really give him this if SOMEONE didn't have a bayonet! Lots of work left to do, but what I have done is Bare Metal Foil the saber and bayonet blades. The foil still shows all the detail on SST's officer's sword. I also gold foiled the belt buckle and the fittings on the scabbard, and added some bullet damage. The BGT officer's frock received the SST Colonel's shoulder straps touched up with some gold cord. Still need an officer's hat insignia and a bunch of detail work and weathering. I'm so used to seeing you do westerns I forget you do Civil War! I've never tried the foil but it looks great. You have really gotten into the details... and the bullet damage to the scabbard is a push over the edge. Too Cool.

I needed an infantryman quick, so he's a SST 6th Michigan trooper figure, '61 Springfield, equipment, brogans and McDowell kepi. The trousers are BGT and the blouse is from Cotswald a bunch of years ago. They offered a blouse & trousers, and they might have been from BGT. I may swap it out for BGT - these will make a good Indian War 5-button blouse. I still need to redo the Springfield and the coat, weather everything, make a display base, maybe buy a glass case..... I really like this .'speacially the damaged scabbard. I have looked for the foil at a Hobby Lobby but no luck. Keep up the grand work. " I won't be lied to and I won't be laid a hand upon"

Great modifications and details, I especially liked the battle damage done to the scabbard. I gave them to my son on his 21st birthday - the anniversary of Day 1. (Should've done something with Reynolds, but I can't put bullet holes in BGT uniforms!) He was thrilled. I'm glad everyone liked the scabbard, it's my favorite detail, too. I Googled images of Chamberlain, and only found photos of GENERAL Chamberlain. But there was a photo of a painting showing Chamberlain & his men advancing, and he has the bent scabbard. Appropriately, the photo was from some blog by a guy who vacationed at my friend's campground, and posted a photo of one of the paintings in his museum! (Other than the museum, the blog bad-mouthed the campground. His main complaint was that the WI-FI was down, so he left! This world has gotten too weird for me.) My wife and I are going back to Gettysburg this month, so I'll try to credit the painting. Maybe 'someday' I will get around to that kinda detail in my troops. Thats a gift I bet he'll remeber for many years to come. Yeah wi-fi's at the battlefield not working, I guess he just didn't get it, thousands of men loosing their lives and golly gee he can't connect on-line. Too sad. My wife also needs some attention. We made a trip back to Gettysburg this week, so last week I had to finish HER version of Chamberlain - or, if you prefer, Cham-bear-lain! She collects Boyd's Bears (which, as luck would have it, are headquartered in Gettysburg!) and I doctored one up for Valentine's day, and did this one for her birthday. He was almost as much work as the SST (at least he already had a mustache), but she likes him a lot. Especially after taking her back to Little Round Top for another history lesson! And I already told her he should have TWO rows of buttons, but she didn't seem to mind. While on Little Round Top, I took lots of pictures (as well as everywhere else!), and this morning decided to try my luck with some photo editing. Here's the results.
